Corporal William Bridgman WW1
« Back to Album | Photo 4 of 9 | Previous | Next |
Standing on the left is flautist Janet Tracey's maternal grandfather. He was in the 2nd Hampshire regiment, in the British 29th Division who fought at Gallipoli together with the Anzac troops. He wrote a diary telling of his regiments landing into barbed wire on the beaches at Gallipoli, and many of the British and New Zealanders around him being killed, he specifically mentions the new Zealanders, not knowing that his youngest daughter would later end up marrying one! He was wounded, but survived, as you can see him with a stick in this photo.
